The University of Nevada Reno campus is one of my favorite places in Northern Nevada for graduation photos. Between the historic buildings, tree-lined walkways, and beautiful architecture, the UNR campus offers endless photo opportunities for seniors who want a mix of classic, elegant, and fun images to celebrate their graduation.
This recent University of Nevada Reno graduation session was the perfect example of how much variety we can get in one shoot. We used different locations across campus, incorporated the cap, gown, and stole, and then finished the session at one of my favorite meadow spots just outside Reno — where the wind decided to show up in full force, but ended up making the photos even better.
University of Nevada Reno Graduation Photos on the Historic UNR Campus
The University of Nevada, Reno was founded in 1874 and is one of the oldest universities in the western United States. The campus is known for its beautiful historic buildings, including Morrill Hall, the Quad, and the Mackay School of Mines, all of which make incredible backdrops for graduation photos.
One of the reasons I love photographing UNR graduation sessions is because the campus has so much character. You can get classic collegiate photos, elegant architectural portraits, and relaxed outdoor images all within a short walking distance.
For seniors who want a gallery that feels complete and unique, UNR is one of the best locations in Reno for graduation photography.
University of Nevada Reno Graduation Photos with Cap, Gown, and Stole
For this session, we made sure to capture a mix of looks to give her a full gallery.
We started with the stole and dress for a clean, classic look that shows off school pride while still feeling natural and relaxed. Then we added the cap and gown for traditional graduation photos, which are always important to have.
Finally, we finished with photos without the gown so the focus could be on her outfit and personality.

Windy Meadow Photos in Reno | One of My Favorite Secret Spots
After finishing on campus, we headed to one of my favorite meadow locations near Reno.
It was incredibly windy, but instead of fighting the weather, we used it to our advantage. The wind added movement to her hair, the stole, and the dress, which made the photos feel natural and full of energy.
Some of my favorite images from the entire session came from this part of the shoot. The mountains in the background, the open field, and the motion from the wind gave the photos a completely different look from the campus images, which is exactly what I want every senior gallery to have.
Reno and Lake Tahoe have so many beautiful outdoor locations, and adding a second spot to your graduation session can make your gallery feel even more special.
